ENVIRONMENTAL
Oriented Strand Board (OSB)
OSB is made from a completely renewable resource, small diameter, fast growing trees. These trees are sourced from managed plantations which have accreditation from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). OSB also has received accreditation from the British Board of Agrement (BBA).
Polyurethane Foam Core (PUR)
PUR is CFC/HCFC free with an ozone depletion potential of zero
Manufacture
Potentially environmentally harmful adhesives are eliminated as the OSB is auto-adhesively bonded to the rigid polyurethane insulation core of the SIP during manufacture. Cuttings produced during manufacture are recycled and as the panels appear on site pre-cut there is minimum on-site wastage.
Thermal Performance
SIPs panels have achieved U-values as low as 0.09 w/m2K with a typical roof panel offering a U-value of 0.15w/m2K. Their prefabrication as precut units allows for exact on site assembly leading to a heat retentive draught free environment. The resulting significant energy bills savings will lead to a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions.
The Future
The 1998 Egan report of the Construction Task Force "Rethinking Construction", recommended ways to enhance the reputation of the Construction Industry. Attention to environmental issues, improved Quality Control and better management of projects, within budget and to timescale, along with a reduction in accidents, were prescribed. We are confident that the services and product offered by Sipit go a long way towards these aims.
